Health First Network (http://healthfirstnetwork.ca) is looking for a new member of our Category Management team. We are looking for an individual that will lead and support the team, while contributing to the future of the organization. Someone who is equally comfortable operating at a strategic level and at the tactical level, executing programs and projects, analyzing data, and solving problems. This leader must be a great communicator and influencer, to collaborate across multiple internal teams, while liaising between our growing membership, made up of over 130 independent health food retail stores across Canada, and our vendor partners.
This opportunity is for the Senior Category Manager position based in Burlington, Ontario/is a flexible location opportunity.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, in this role you:
· Are accountable for the overall performance of the Category Management department within Health First Network
· Will lead, foster, and support a cohesive, productive and results driven Category Management team
· Are accountable for setting and achieving annual Category Management department budget
· Are accountable for the professional development of the Category Management team while helping them achieve their personal and professional objectives
· Will actively participate in large projects and lead small projects to support the leadership team’s strategic direction
· Will provide insights and collaboration as part of the Senior Operational Leadership Team, who creates and executes strategic plans for the organization
· Will work in collaboration with the Senior Operational Leadership Team to help achieve annual company budget
· Will work strategically with internal department heads to ensure best results are achieved through collaborative efforts
· Will develop, cultivate, and ensure excellent and proactive relationships with HFN Vendor Partners
· Will develop, update, and execute Vendor Partner Agreements that propel growth and benefits for Health First Network and its Members, while providing value to our Vendor Partners
· Will negotiate best in industry programs with Vendor Partners on behalf of HFN Members
· Will work closely with Vendor Partners to achieve mutually beneficial strategies, initiatives, and drive ROI
· Will attend trade shows to identify new vendors and innovation, enhance existing Vendor Partner relationships and inform product category strategies
· Will oversee and plan promotional and marketing execution, pricing, and Member and Vendor communications related to Category Management
· Will work with Vendor Partners to identify and execute vendor opportunities in support of warehouse & distribution programs
· Will provide insights and collaboration as part of the Annual General Meeting Committee and manage overall participation and experience for Vendor Partners
· Will utilize Health First Network’s proprietary data platform, along with other sources of information, to assist in strategic decision-making and create opportunities that best serve HFN Members and Vendor Partners
· Are responsible to develop and manage positive relationships with HFN Members and their staff
· Will analyze trends, monitor market conditions and report results, with any follow-up actions required
· Will further contribute to and develop tools and analytical processes to drive continuous improvement
· Will assist in making Health First Network a great place to work by contributor to the overall strategy and culture of the organization
· Will be a positive and supportive liaison between Members, Vendor Partners, and HFN
What you bring to the team:
· Experience in category management, buying, marketing or similar function
· Post-secondary education in Business, Nutrition or other relevant discipline
· Knowledge of Natural Health Products and the retail industry a definite asset
· Ability to lead and support a team – great with people
· Comprehension of setting and managing budgets – good with numbers
· Well-developed analysis skills; not only the ability but enjoyment in working with numbers and large amounts of data; a keen orientation for details is critical
· Excellent communication skills and equally comfortable whether communicating verbally or in writing
· Strong computer skills, especially in Excel – ability to work with formulas, pivot tables, and manipulating data
· Strong negotiation skills
· Well-developed problem solving and critical thinking skills
· A strategic and results oriented thinker with strong attention to detail
· Highly professional and responsible with a “do what it takes” attitude
· Above average organization and planning skills including a demonstrated ability to manage details and streamline and implement processes
· Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to prioritize requests, manage multiple projects and scheduling demands
· Willingness to pitch in at all levels to get the job done – no job below or above you
· A desire to contribute to, be part of and take pride in the growth of an organization
· Ability to adapt to a fast paced and dynamic environment

· Some travel to conferences, trade shows and/or Vendor Partner offices across Canada
· Bilingual in French and English is highly desirable
