Janet Jacks has been passionate about the food-health connection for over 40 years, beginning when her husband was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and she set out to find natural ways to heal the body and prevent disease.
Her passion for this connection and the positive results she experienced after changing her diet made Janet want to share this with others. Out of this passion, Goodness Me! Natural Food Market and Lifewatchers, her ten-week healthy living program, was born.
Based on this success and knowledge, Janet wrote Discover the Power of Food: The 10 Week Plan to Transform Your Life. This book consolidates Janet's 40 years of experience, research and the latest nutritional information into one life-changing book, complete with practical tips and recipes.
Janet hosts her own radio show “Just for the health of it,” and continues to lead courses and workshops in the industry about the food-health connection.

Kim is a dedicated co-op practitioner with a passionate focus on sustainable food systems. As veteran at Ontario Natural Food Co-op (ONFC), Kim has been engaged in many different ways at ONFC, the co-operative sector, and sustainability as a whole.
Kim is the embodiment of organic living. Not only does she shop organically and attend all organic-related events, but she makes sure organics is top of mind with everyone she works with. As the Director of Member Relations and Education at ONFC, Kim is the key communicator when it comes to providing people with the most current information on complex organic issues, including the importance of organic agriculture, non-GMO’s and supply chains. She empowers both buyers’ clubs and natural food retailers with the resources they need to properly promote the organic industry, really speaking to the heart of the issue as to what clean food is and why it should be sold.
As a long-time supporter of Kim’s has said, “Organizations need to adapt in order to survive, but sometimes lose inspiration. With her capacity for leadership and deep commitment to sustainability, Kim keeps that inspiration alive.”
CHFA John Holtmann Leadership Award
Bruce Cole started his career as a writer in 1975, when he was accepted into the Humber College School of Journalism in Toronto. Over the next 15 years, his career alternated between stops at community newspapers and in the communications and marketing departments of several large corporations. In 1992, he joined the Southam Publishing Group as editor of Heating, Plumbing and Air Conditioning Magazine, but after three years, was looking for something different. It was then that he accepted a job with CHFA as trade show and communications manager, working there until 1997, when he and his wife Donna co-founded Canadian Natural Health Retailer (CNHR) Magazine. Their goal was simple – to help natural health retailers improve all aspects of their business. During his time in the industry, Bruce has featured hundreds of health food stores in CNHR and has helped organize and promote business seminars for retailers across the country. He has served as an editor for many industry authors, and two years ago, he wrote his first book, “Mighty Magnesium: The Unlikely Health Hero.”
